READ HERE WHAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY

I wish I had seen this site a couple of weeks ago...bought a Polo, 3-
years old from the Branch in Glasgow up beside Jordanhill. Traded in
a Punto. Told the Polo would ready in a week, Mot'd and with a
new CD player. It took us two weeks to get it, after it had to get a
exhaust, paint job and brake pads. When we got it it still didn't seem
right, making noises etc. Turns out it needed a new gear box which
their "MOT" missed...? We got a replacement Polo to drive while
they fixed ours...but we had to return it as it had a dodgy exhaust. My
wife complained but was treated like a daft wee wummin - when I
went along (and I know shit all about cars, she knows more than me)
they were suddenly more apologetic (though still full of lies, piss-poor
explanations, and never even a hint of any monetary compensation for
buggering us about for over 2 weeks).
Don't buy Arnold Clarke.

Have had no dealings with AC myself but my brother has:
He bought car for over £6K from AC in Stirling last year (April).  After 1 week, the tracking failed & there was a strange rattle emitting from the exhaust & engine.  Brother only had a 1 month warranty, so he took the car back ASAP as he predominantly used the car to drive his 2 year old son about.  On receipt of car, the sound was still there.  After numerous heated phone calls, they finally asked him to bring the car into the garage.
All seemed well until the central locking failed & locked you out of the car.  The car would then unlock itself about 13 hours later!!
I was driving the car back from Edinburgh on the motorway last May & the car died on me & was leaking oil.  It required a new head gasket which should have been picked up in service.
Brother went into the AC Showroom & refused to leave until something was done about it & stood & shouted for Scotland.
Car now seems drivable, but rattle in engine is back.
ALOT of money, for not alot of satisfaction, shame on you Arnold.  Wonder how many security cameras are on your home premises as I'd LOVE to pan in yer windaes!!
If anything happens to my nephew whilst in your heap a car, or comes to any harm due to non-/shoddy maintenance by your company, I'll be down on you like a ton of very spikey bricks!

I bought a car from Arnold Clark last February Ford fiesta after the first week
I started having problems with it the steering was really tight (like a tank)
then  I got a mechanic to look at it, it appears that It had been in a really
bad car crash and the steering rack was all twisted, they brake shoes fell apart
when the wheels were taken off and there was a little joint that had snapped off
and was making a banging noise.  And numerous other problems I took the car back
to Arnold Clark and they told me I had damaged the car myself considering I was
3 months pregnant at the time and know nothing about cars.  So I totally agree
with this website and will not buy another car from these rip off merchants
again.  .

I used to be a sales manager @ A/C left because it sucked.
The cars are only semi prepped before going out FACT. You can contact me on

There I was happily arranging to go and test drive a V40 from Arnold Clark in Aberdeen when I happened across this site while I was trying to view their selection of used cars. I will most certainly not be going there now!

i bought a car from Arnold Clark 7 weeks ago on the promise a seal on the
windscreen and door would be replaced within a week am still waiting for it to
be fixed, despite the fact my partner has phoned them twice or thrice every week
to be fobbed off with some story after being passed around several people all of
whom knew nothing about my car. They were happy enough in their pursuit of a sale
but after this they couldn't care less. Have not been satisfied in my service with
this company and will not go there again only glad i never took out an extended
warranty..

Great to find your website and even better to read the hundreds of complaints!
I bought a brand new Golf from the said AC in October 2001. 130bhp Diesel model and had winter pack and sunroof as fitted extras. No probs buying the car, the salesman was delightful but delivery was slow.
6000 miles later the gear box failed. Complete disinterest from the staff. Kept waiting endlessly while trying to book the car in for repair. 3 months later I got the car back but in those 3 months, I had made all the calls to AC to find out when it would be fixed. They NEVER contacted me. I had a bog standard Golf as a courtesy car which pissed me off as I had not bought a basic machine.
Eventually got the car returned with a new gearbox which I insisted on and spoke to VW myself who agreed to this while AC had insisted on parts being replaced.
Collected the car and drove about 2 miles when the clutch failed! No apologies from AC and I was kept waiting on a busy road for 1 hour before they rescued me and the car. Kept waiting another hour while they found me another courtesy car, no apologies and complete apathy.
One week later the car was fixed...no apologies.
At 11000 miles, the car decided to malfunction again and once more gear box failure. I live 2 hours from town in the middle of no-where but fortunately the car broke down about half a mile from home. I asked for AC recovery which they refused and insisted I organize the recovery through my insurance. Got the car back to Glasgow again and it was off the road for another month. This time I insisted on a Diesel 130bhp car which I got but not with my extras of course!
When my car was fixed, I said I did not want it and wanted a replacement. After a lot of phone calls, young Master Clark agreed but wanted to give me any old Golf...I said absolutely not, it had to be identical as I needed both sunroof and winter pack which is why I had bought them. The new car was supposedly ordered at the beginning of November 2002. It is now the end of March 2003 and the new car magically appeared after I sent a fax asking where the hell it was. However, it has no sunroof so I am not accepting it. I once again have asked for a refund but it is being refused and yet another Black, 5 door 130bhp diesel Golf with winter pack and sunroof has been ordered.......how long will it take to arrive? They have no idea, nor have they apologized for their mistake, nor have they explained why they did not contact me to say the replacement (Wrong one) was in and seemingly has been for a month. No apologies at all.
After ranting and raving, it has dawned on me that it is their loss now coz by the time the replacement car arrives, my car will have done at least 18000 miles and be almost 2 years old and hopefully I shall have a nice brand new car!!
This wont actually affect AC in anyway coz I know VW are supplying the replacement car!
If I do get the new car, I shall never go to AC again for servicing, Fort William seems a better option...anything other than face those desks in Crow Rd with dour, miserable and downright rude people.
AC do not offer any assistance in getting you to town from Jordanhill while your car is being serviced but they do say surlily...there is complimentary coffee!!
AC sucks...I am a personal friend of the family so am doubly stunned at their attitude so God help the folk who don't know them.
Moral of the tale....NEVER use Arnold Clark for cars.

I bought a Vreg astra from Arnold on 15 March. 16 and 17 March, took ages to get car started in the morning. It went back to Arnold's place, Garscube Road Glasgow,  whose people said "can't find fault, how are you switching it on?" [been driving for 20 years! never had trouble switching car on]. Took car back after "engine flush". 21 and 22 March, repeat problem. Manager not available to take my calls. Went in [when got car started], the car went back in for testing. Although car switched on when service manager drove it, it labored a bit. I pointed this out.  no communication from them for 4 days -"no faults, can you come in and show us how you switch it on?] Tried "customer service" got fobbed off then treated rudely and unhelpfully by "customer service". Got threatened by manager that if I didn't give them the courtesy car back that day they would report it stolen, while they were still refusing to give me replacement car or refund, still failing to find the fault, implying that I was the one at fault. I took car back to get it independently assessed. I have still received no response to my letters of complaint. When Arnold is not in his offices apparently "no-one" is in charge to us to speak to. Currently, fault recurring still. Sadly for me, I have since heard many stories, some of them ongoing, of disgraceful and shabby treatment of his customers by Arnold Clark and his people.  I wish I'd seen this website first!  I hope my story gives other potential victims fair warning. I'd sooner walk over broken glass in bare feet that ever deal with that company again.
I just want to warn you about Arnold Clarks HELENSBURGH branch, especially the
General Manager BOBBY DORRIAN. He's a smarmy arrogant bastard with one arm
shorter than the other! I bought a car from them last year and had multiple
problems some very serious and Mr Dorrians attitude was basically 'it's your car
now, we can't fix it so tough luck!' There a bunch of liars and cheats. My car
still isn't fixed and I cant afford a new one, they've took all my life savings
and left me high & dry. Their attitude stinks and I will never set foot in one
of their garages again especially the Helensburgh branch.  P.S. I have made a
sticker for my car with your web site address on it & put it on my back window
in the hope that even more people will log on to your site and see for them
selves what a bunch of cowboys Arnold's garages are!

Great site!! I am thinking of a new car and thought "Arnold Clark, now there's a
reputable company". Typed that into my browser and saw your site. Thanks, I've
changed me mind now and I'll wait till my wee back street guy finds me the right
car! I had a similar experience with the John Martin Group (which I re-dubbed,
yes, the John Wayne Group).
All credit to you for puttng at least one con artist main dealer in it's place.
Maybe it should be renamed the Arnold Cak company?
