What a brilliant site! Found you by accident searching for AC with a view to buy
a used car...thanks for the warnings, I'm off to look elsewhere now! 26.6.2003

My 21 year old son has been looking at Arnold Clark for his first car, he has been saving really hard and felt that with AC being a large established company this would avoid any problems!! Thank god I found this sight, under no circumstances will we be going any where near AC and I will be telling every one I know about this sight. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH. 26.6.2003
he real sale !!!!!!!!!!
2 to 3 weeks prior we put up the car prices by say £500.00 THEN ANNOUNCE the
real sale , trading standards do visit and note prices "already inflated by
£500.00" then voila we reduce cars by £500.00 or free ins or servicing and mug
everyone at the real sale.26.6.2003

  ********** very important ***************
i just left ac tell customers to watch out for warranties, service plans and
insurances such as vehicle replacement ins.  being buried , into the deal were
they cannot see it,     The reason???????  ac is now targeting his sales teams
heavily on these add ons .
also keep a close eye on the interest rate at every stage during the deal, right
up to handover and especially when signing finance docs. tactics like tell
customer the rate is 5%, calculate it at 7.5% tell customer figs, write 5% on
contract sign up customer, when customer leaves add 7. in front of 5% . voila a
2% rise in interest rate which cannot be seen on final finance docs because ac
talks in flat rates and finance docs come in apr. so the rate of 5% flat would
equate to 10% apr thus salesman can brush off the change in rate with this neat
excuse beware.27.6.2003

I didn't buy my car from Arnold Clark, but from another Fiat dealer. Great car,
shame about the dealerships.
I had my car serviced ONCE by Arnold Clark. One thing their technicians should
grasp is that ALL bits which are attached to a car when it is delivered to the
service department should be on, or replaced, when the car is picked up. This is
ESPECIALLY true of those bits without which the car won't go for more than five
miles (such as the oil filler cap). If I didn't have one of these when I
delivered the car to the service department, how did I get the thing the 15
miles from my home? Surely someone with an IQ of say, 50, - who has seen under a
car bonnet before - would see the absolute importance of this item? And, it's
probably appropriate to expect your car returned without new dents and
scratches, don't you think?
Arnold Clark do indeed suck, as well as charge highly for work done badly. So
much for competition and the effects of adverse publicity: those hackneyed
phrases linking a lack of customer care (or in my case Arnold Clark's
incompetence) and failure in business obviously have limited reflection in the
real world.
Long may those of us screwed by car dealers have this sort of forum. 27.6.2003

Picture this:
Daughter to dad:  My car won't start.
Dad to Daughter:  Don't worry I work for Arnold Clark and will get it fixed.
Daughter to dad:  Any chance of getting my car back, uncle Arnold has had it for
two weeks now.
Dad to Daughter:  The boys in the garage say that it needs a new fuel pump and
it will cost you £250 and your car is so old its not worth that.  I'll try and
get a second hand pump and get one of the boys to fit it.
Daughter to Dad:  Any chance of getting my car back, uncle Arnold has had it for
four weeks now.
Dad to Daughter: Don't be impatient, anyway they don't think its the fuel pump
now.
Daughter to Dad:  Any chance of getting my car back, uncle Arnold has had it for
six weeks now.
Dad to Daughter:  SILENCE
Daughter has car uplifted at her expense kind stepfather points out that she has
a faulty key (chip inside missing) tries new key, starts car.  Daughter drives of
in the sunset.
The above is a true story the Dad does really work there and even he couldn't
get Uncle Arnold to fix his daughters car.
By the way the i was that kind stepfather. 28.6.2003

I've just come across your website while running a search on Google (I want to
return my hire purchase car!) and thought I'd take a deek at some of the
comments. It just so happens that my husband and I were nearly ripped off but
fortunately for us, the girl behind the services desk was sooooooooo
unbelievably rude that we decided not to take up their offer to replace the
clutch. Anyway, here's the story:
Had just bought a used Fiat from Tollcross, Edinburgh about 6 months previously
and discovered a weird squeaking noise coming from the wheels whenever the car
turned to the right. A bit worried, we took the car into Arnold Clark to get it
investigated and I just happened to mention that they might want to check out
the clutch, as we thought it might need fixing too. When I returned to pick up
the car, I was presented with a bill for £20 odd for just having a LOOK at the
f*****g thing!! I was then presented with a quote to replace the clutch on their
recommendation at a cost of £360. JESUS CHRIST......thankfully we had taken the
Autocare cover which I mentioned to the rude sales girl (whatever) who the
informed me that the part (s) they needed to replace/fix was not included.
GODAMMIT.......what was the point? I told them to stuff their quote, told the
girl to get a job she liked and decided to just leave it. Two years later and
the clutch is still totally fine after 2 MOT's and 2 services from other garages. I would wholeheartedly have to agree that
Arnold Clark are a complete rip-off and I will never buy/rent a car from them
again. Good luck with the site - unscrupulous dealers deserve to have this done
to them
