thank you so much for this site. I now know where i wont be buying a car. .top

T MUST BE OF GREAT COMFORT TO ARNOLD CLARK TO KNOW THAT HE HAS GOT SO BIG THAT HE CAN AFFORD TO TURN AWAY BUSINESS. AFTER VISITING THE ARNOLD CLARK SUPER SITE ON SHIELDS ROAD MOTHERWELL, MY WIFE AND MYSELF WERE FACED WITH A SALESMAN WHO RATHER THAT PRESENT A PROFESSIONAL COMPANY IMAGE WAS MORE INTERESTED IN DRIVING MY WIFE AND MYSELF AWAY BY MAKING SOME VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNCALLED FOR REMARKS, SO MUCH SO THAT WE FELT WE HAD TO LEAVE THE PREMISES.

HE MAY BE " THE REAL ARNOLD CLARK" BUT I'M "THE REAL CUSTOMER" AND I WILL NEVER VISIT ANOTHER ARNOLD CLARK FORECOURT AGAIN.9.6.2003

I bought a Citroen AX from Arnold "The Shark" a few years ago, it was my first
car and the salesman kept pointing out the "lovely bodywork" and how "the
upholstery matched the paintwork" and that there was a mirror on the driver's
side sun visor. You guessed it - I'm a woman!!! I was assured that all would
be ok when I picked it up but when I got there I was told I had to take it back
in to get the radio re-coded. The car hadn't been cleaned out and the ashtray
was full of fag-ends and was stinking. They wouldn't provide a courtesy car
when I took it back to get the radio recoded, this which meant I had to get
relatives to take me there then home then back again to pick up the car. After
a week, the gears went (while I was driving on the motorway) and I had to hold
the gear stick in position until I could stop. 2 weeks after that, the cylinder
head gasket almost blew up and the AA man said I was lucky not to die. "The
Shark" had "forgotten" to put water in it and it was!
s also out of oil. Luckily, both things were covered under the month's warranty
so "generously" provided. However, after about 3 months the entire brake system
went and I had to replace this at my own expense. My sister bought a car from
them a couple of years later and also had a lot of problems with the pre-sale
service, etc. Needless to say, none of my family have ever been back. 11.7.2003

In brief: I put my car in to Arnold Clark for them to fix my speed O. They were
more than willing to take my money charging me £300 for a new part and labour
time. I came to collect my car after work to find my speed o still not working.
There staff were extremely rude and telling me various lies.
I brought the car back the next day for them to fix it. They said that it was
not the problem the originally charged me for and they had dismantling parts of
my car which i have no idea were about it comes from within the vehicle. There
response was they were unable to fix the car and were unwilling to provide me
with a refund for the part that I had purchased and the money i wasted.
There claim was that i they got my speed o working, however it now works in KPH
instead of MPH which is what it was when i put it in to the garage. The mileage
in my car now goes up in Kilometers which is devaluing my car and i have no way
of telling how fast i am going.
My view is they are a bunch of incompetent bandits who are more than willing to
take your money for something they are not capable of fixing. If they had said
from the start they could not fix it i would have taken my car elsewhere.11.7.2003

The problems at Arnolds are not new 40yrs. ago while i was in the forces i
bought a bond three wheeler in a Glasgow showroom as this car had a m/cycle two
stroke engine the salesman said to come back in a week and the car would be
serviced and ready for me as i was posted in Edinburgh this involved quite a
long and expensive journey { for a serviceman we were not very well paid } of
course the car was not ready so we started a long process of me phoning and
being assured the car was ready travelling through and finding it was not after
several of these trips i got my car and drove it 50yards from the showroom when
the engine started to rev at top pitch and refused to shut down i now know the
thing was so carboned up it was running on constant flash from glowing
carbon so it went back and after several more trips i was offered another more
expensive car with £20 off which i took but i was well out of pocket i am still
convinced that they had no mechanics who could decoke !
a two stroke engine kids can do that 12.7.2003

4Weeks ago today(12 / 07 / 03 i went to Arnold Clark (crow road) to buy a car on
the motability finance scheme. To my horror Salesman (Jonathan MacDonald) put me
through a finance credit agreement not mobility)& it was declined.
for 4 weeks now he has told me he has changed my personal details & i am now a
new person. but i still get declined).
on the 12 / 07 / 03 he telephoned me & said he would be up with my £100-00. cash
deposit (which he never did)
My son was in Arnold Clark (crow road) with a friend who wants to buy a car &
my son was told by Salesman JONATHAN MACDONALD to tell me that Jonathan would
be up @ 6-00pm. (he never arrived)
As i am disabled i depend on my car daily.
i also returned my motability car 3 weeks early to Melvin motors (a great
company) Minerva street finnieston Glasgow.
as JONATHAN MACDONALD told me i would have my car by then.
(STILL NO CAR & NO £100-00. DEPOSIT RETURNED BY JONATHAN MACDONALD) i ALSO
THOUGHT IT WAS ILLEGAL TO CHANGE SOMEONE'S PERSONAL DETAILS (FRAUD) Then maybe
I'm wrong. (OR IS IT JUST ARNOLD CLARKS WAY OF GETTING CAR SALES) They have no
shame whatsoever (robbing the disabled & the poor..... TIME TO KICK SOME ASS
ARNOLD OR CLOSE THE DOORS. 12.7.2003

Purchased a brand new Fiat Stilo 1.2 Active in August 2002. Had numerous faults,
especially with airbag warnings and the gearbox. After being told to let the
gearbox fault develop.......for 10 months they then ripped out the gearbox,
opened it up, had a poke around and then stuck it back together and re-fitted
it. Worked OK for about 1 week. Now every gear is rattling like a bag of bolts.
Airbag warnings are still an every day occurrence with the "mechanics" being
unable to find the fault. Their idea of a fix is to reset the ECU. 13.7.2003

I bought a 1.6 Toyota carina in Oct '99 from A Clarke, Bishopbriggs. Went to
pick it up and was told that I couldn't have it as it was actually 2 cars - a
cut and shut. You would think they would check these things before putting them
on the forecourt? Obviously not.
Anyway, I bought a 1.8 Carina instead as I was mollified with a 2 year interest
free loan (instead of the then maximum 1year).
A couple of niggly problems that I asked to be cleared up: sticky accelerator,
small dent at rear and scratch; never were. Tried writing as well but was
ignored. Gave up.
Moved to Stirling and thought I would continue to get car serviced 'properly' by
Toyota trained technicians so kept putting the car into A Clarke, Springkerse in
Stirling. Expensive and crap. They never listened to any of my requests to e.g.
change the wiper blades or grease the accelerator peddle whenever it was put in
for an A or B service. Did it myself. Service charges are ridiculous but I
didn't know any better. I always suspected that they didn't do what they were
meant to and forced myself to check oil, tyres etc myself each time I picked up
the car. Latest is a quote for 3 tyres, a wiper linkage, 2 brake pads & discs
and 1 shock absorber coming out at £750 ex VAT. I've booked the car into a
local garage instead. Don't know yet whether they'll rip me off, but their
prices are 40% cheaper.
Interestingly, I still receive regular updates of the 'family' at A Clark,
Bishopbriggs despite having my car serviced by A Clark, Stirling for the past 3
years. I hear nothing from the Stirling Family.14.7.2003

bought a 52 reg Punto in January, the following day it was back in the garage
because of noisy brakes and the car was shuddering on tick over. they repair the
brakes if i paid for it, and said the shuddering was normal. now the car has a
serious clutch shudder and the throttle cable has broken, and good old Arnold
Clarke couldn't give f**k 14.7.2003

Bought an almost new Volvo from Arnold Clark in Aberdeen. Had problems with it
from the beginning. Engine would sometimes rev up for no reason eventually fixed
after two and a half years), sudden and dramatic loss of braking which they
failed to resolve or even explain although they did change pads and discs at a
cost to me these were not the cause of the braking problem) and a misalignment of
the passenger doors which resulted in stone chipping to the rear passenger
sills( put car in for body shop repairs, returned after 3 days the chips still
visible under a thin coat of paint which washed off after one wash). These are
just the faults the dealings with customer service would fill a book.
