List of problems within 6 months (weeks in some cases) of buying my 3 yr old ex
mobility car from AC:
1. Final copy of Finance agreement (0%) was handed to me with an administrative
charge of £150 - I queried stating this was illegal as the document I originally
signed had had this added afterwards. Salesman couldn't wait to get this piece
of paperwork back and change it to 0% - mention of the word illegal seemed to do
it;
2. Wiper motor went within 2 weeks on a car with 22,500 on clock;
3. problems with electrical components - luckily most were covered under the
£295 years warranty I had the foresight to take out - although sometimes I had
to point out to AC that the problem WAS DEFINITELY covered and had to show them
the policy document to prove it;
4. went out late at night (unusual for me) left the city and put on my
headlights - NONE. It turned out that both headlight connectors had 'burned
out' at same time. I queried with AC a major problem with electrics on car -
absolutely not was the reply "this happens quite often". Took car to auto
electricians - they have NEVER in decades of trading seen both connectors burn
out and VERY RARE for even one to go
5 Whilst in for this repair AC detailed my rear brake light was out. I replied I
knew and that I had bought a replacement bulb which was still in the boot. They
replaced the bulb (which I supplied). Here's the good bit - they charged £25
for supplying and replacing a bulb. When I pointed out I had supplied the bulb
and it was something I could have done they replied that the works had been
carried out and I had to pay! I said I wanted to contest the Mickey mouse bill
and was told that I would not get my car back until I had paid. i.e.. my car was
being held for ransom!
6. central locking started clicking on and off as I drove along as though
possessed. AC STILL denied there was any electrical fault. Central locking
chip had to be replaced. My car was gone for 3 full days and nights - even
though I work a 40 mile round trip daily and I sat on average 1 hour each might
only to be told my car wasn't ready.
7. On receipt of my 'new' central locking re-coded key set I was told "UNDER NO
CIRCUMSTANCES USE YOUR SPARE KEYS - GET THEM DOWN HERE AND AC WILL RECODE THEM -
IF YOU USE THEM YOU WILL (excuse my French) BUGGER THE WHOLE SYSTEM UP"
Yes- you've guessed - hurrying out one morning I did forget and used my spare -
"oh dear" I thought. Surprise, surprise they worked fine indicating that the
£200 odd £s charged by AC to Autocare appeared to have been for works which had
not been carried out! Why was my car kept for 3 days? Is this fraud?
7. Just had cause to report a robbery to my car where access appears to have
been with a key. I was confused too - when I reported the matter the police
asked who had access to my keys. I am not stating it was any AC employee in
any way however, their name was given as they had had 3 days of access to my
keys. I have since found that the guy who had access to my keys for this repair
has 'left the company' and, indeed the country - I presume totally unconnected.
8. My father bought a car from AC too (days after I got mine - just before any
hassle) and he was quoted an APR however, the paperwork he signed up for quoted
the %APR as the flat rate. He is a guy in his 60s and never had a car on
credit. I was not with him and AC told him basically tough sh*** (manager's
word) that he had signed a legal and binding contract. Again, is this fraud (I
presume not as my father signed it) but VERY DUBIOUS PRACTICES.
9. My son recently passed his driving test - guess where he bought his car - NOT
ARNOLD CLARK!!!!!  15.7.2003

I bought a red N reg Punto from Arnold (sucks) Clark two years ago and really
wish I hadn't bothered. It was my first car after passing my test and first
thought it was the bees knees, then a week down the line I noticed the colour on
the roof and bonnet were lovely shades of pink, the window handles worked
backwards, battery needed changing few months down the line. Clutch was
knackered, the boot had a lot more rust than I originally thought the list is
endless, it was basically a rust bucket.
A word of warning for first time drivers, DON'T RUSH IN TO BUY A CAR AND STAY
AWAY FROM ARNOLD (SUCKS DICK) CLARK. Thank you 16.7.2003

i worked with this company for 10(ten)years and i was treated like a worthless piece of dirt. i could not get a full weekend off except on annual holidays or if i was ill. technicians are only allowed 1hour to do a 69point service, you are expected to sell at least 8hours every day. i bought a ford fiesta witch has two major complaints yet i have been told they are standard noises have you ever heard of brakes making a noise as standard? I'm a qualified technician and i know this is rubbish. however the group service manager Andrew Hutton) has not returned any of my telephone calls. my advice to all you people is to contact him at the Linwood Citroen branch or contact the manufacturer direct quoting Arnold Clark

ps don't blame the technicians all the time if there is not enough time your car will be washed and parked somewhere else and rebooked 17.7.2003

I bought a year old Volkswagen Golf from Arnold Clark and 4 months later i have
still not received the second key, the service book and the hand book on the car.
Great car but poor poor after sales service. 17.7.2003

I drive a Renault Clio and it is 18 months old and i booked it into the local
Renault dealer ARNOLD CLARK. it was a routine 18000 mile service which includes
oil checks, tyres etc. the next day i was going to Glasgow about 80 miles form
my home town of Dumfries Scotland and i always check the car before i set off. i
was looking at the water and oil to notice THE CAR HAD NOT ONE DROP OF OIL IN
IT! so much for Arnold Clarks oil check!! i wonder if the claimed the price of
oil back from Renault. ALSO we have a Renault Laguna 1.9dci and it about 1 year
old and it pulls away every time you accelerate and i have had it into Arnold
Clark 3 times and they say the fix the problem each time but they never do!! In
future ill be taking my cars to benfield Renault in Carlisle. 21.7.2003

I have never had to experience purchasing a car from AC . But a few years ago I
got a new Vectra company car .
It broke down the day it was delivered ( a Friday ) and towed to Vauxhall AC at
the docks in Dundee .
I thought - great its a brand new car - they will give it extra special
attention to satisfy a pissed off customer .
NO ..... of course this was not to be the case
The initial diagnosis on the Friday was a broken power steering pump - and as it
was a weekend it would take a few days to get the part etc ......
Of course no courtesy car !!
Low and behold , when someone ACTUALLY took a look at the car the following
TUESDAY , this was not the fault .
I received a sheepish phone call , saying that the clip on the power steering
hose was loose and the fluid and drained away . The car was ready to go .
I suppose the first phone call was some Bulls**T guess at the problem , because
no-one could be bothered .
Unfortunately the car had to keep going back to AC for dealer services - and
every time I kept seeing the same smug faces .21.7.2003
