purchased a ford Mondeo lx at first i thought it was great but it started to make
gearbox noises took it back to garage still under the warranty i saw the so
called sales man going into the garage as i turned into the forecourt to park
went into the office to reception and told the girl what the problem was. she
said the salesman was not in today but i told her that was not true as i had
just seen him going into the garage o she said I'll just check and 5 minutes
later in came the sales man i told him what the trouble was he said the car
was fully checked prior to me getting it and was in tip top order when the
workshop had finished with it i told him to take the car for a test drive and
he agreed he came back and said the car had usual gearbox noises for
that make of car and mileage 44600 as a precaution i had the car checked
by the RAC which i am a member and they also agreed the main bearing in
the g/box was ready to go so armed with this written report confronted the
salesman and he said that as long as the gearbox was functional he would
not do anything to the car but if i had any other complaints to contact the
help line nithdale drive ring any bells so i got in touch with my legal boy and
as soon as a Clark received the letter he told me to get the car in right away
and it would be sorted right away i have a good lawyer i do not know what
was in the letter but it did the trick i will never by a car from Mr Clark's
scrap
yard ever again neither should anyone else if these tactics are anything to go by

I have heard in the trade, down in England, that Arnold Clarke Auto's, cars are
seconds, that main or franchise dealers would not sell, due to there inspection
procedures and quality assurance. Thats why everybody here has a gripe over the
cars that AC sells, If you wish to buy a car from AC, Chop off 35% of the screen
price, cos thats all its worth, that includes a brand spanking new car!! 2.9.2003

I was amazed to see your great site.
I have bought 2 cars from AC and both were a disaster. My Volvo 340 bought from their Perth Fiat Branch had the nice habit of
Cutting out when crossing a busy junction.
Going dead for no reason.

However try to get them to help??
No chance.

Also Renault Laguna 2.2 Diesel- Alternator fell off -2 days after the expiry of the 3 month warranty.
They wanted 340 Quid to fix.

Got it done at the village Garage for £180

Never had a problem after that though.

Never got service record 'Couldn't find it'

Told me one owner actually 2

Lying Bastards.

So AC Perth

You keep sending me out brochures- I love shredding them.

Arnold Clark are absolute Arse 2.9.2003

I bought a one year old Renault Scenic in February this year. The car had a
three year warranty with nearly two years remaining.
During a period of hot weather this summer the plastic fairing (air intake grill
nearside) below the front windscreen distorted and buckled upwards.
When the vehicle was returned for repair under warranty I was informed that it
had probably been deliberately damaged and the warranty would not cover a
repair.
I was then told that I would be sent an estimate with a 20% deduction as part of
the warranty, nothing received so far, what do you think, can pigs fly ? 3.9.2003

Brilliant site. It's not before time that someone takes on these Cowboys.
I purchased a new Mazda 323 Sport fro A C Mazda at Glasgow Road Paisley in
April of this year. I collected my car late on a Friday afternoon and over the
course of the weekend I decided to apply some polish to the paintwork of my new
car.
I was shocked when the paint started to lift of on to the polishing cloth. I
contacted A C immediately and advised the salesman of what had happened. He
asked me to call back with the car on the Monday which I did and was then taken
to their body shop with the car and was told that all that was needed was some
lacquer on the paintwork to stop this from happening again.
There was no way that I was having a brand new car that required to be
sprayed with lacquer and as such I rejected the car and gave them it back. As
they
accepted the car back I felt obliged to re-select another car from A C. As I
didn't want another Mazda I tried some of their other branches including the
Motor Store complex at Wishaw. I have never met such a bunch of ignorant twat's
that have the brass neck to call them self Salespeople working at that branch.
This was a real eye opener and as such I did not buy another car from A C and
I never will. Arthur Daley looked professional compared with these tubes.
I have now purchased a Rover 75 from The Park Automobile Company in East
Kilbride. I would recommend them as they have been more than honorable in their
dealings. 3.9.2003

The last time Arnold Clark serviced my Daewoo the cylinder head blew up -
costing me £800 + £400 in hire car charges. The £800 I got back as the car was
in Daewoo's warranty, but that took 9 months and Lloyds of London to get
involved.
Did Arnold Clark offer to collect the car (as I was 100 miles away)? Did they
offer a loan car? Did they offer any help what-so-ever?
Fat Chance - Stay well clear of Arnold Clark - they're about on a par with KWIK
FIT ("need 4 new shocks mate") - and that's saying something. 4.9.2003

as yet another member of the public who has been fleeced by
this decidedly unpleasant rogue of a man i have to ask what
the motor traders association is doing about this man and
his band of puppets i bought a Nissan Micra vibe from this
a 2000 model 16000 miles on the clock ex motability in blue
i opted for a 1 month warranty as the car had service record
and the salesman's reassurance the car was a1 and i also test
drove the car and all seemed ok although it did not seem a
very lively 1300cc but the car had to go through the work
shop and to be tuned. so the deal was done 3788 i paid for it
picked the car up on Saturday the 9th of August but still it
did not seem to be performing well took the car for a run in
the country .started to smell a kind of burning as i had the
window down i thought it was a local farm or something of
that nature but on coming cars started flashing their lights
at me so i stopped the car and had a look round it. to my
surprise the front braes were smoking and the disks were red
hot so i waited for them to cool down and i phoned the garage and explained the
problem to them they sent out a
breakdown truck to pick the car up as i could not move it
and feared i would damage the car further they told me to
phone them in the morning so i did they said the car would need two new calipers
as i had driven it to long the heat
had damaged the seals on the calipers so i would have to pay for two new one's
180 pounds each plus vat. but i said
what caused the brakes to stick on in the first place they
said that i must have been driving to fast and caused the
brakes to over heat i contacted a friend who is a little
more up on cars than me so we went to the garage to speak to
the workshop foreman and asked if we could see the damage to
the car they had the calipers away from the disks and you
could see that the brakes had not been serviced namely that
the brake pads had not been replaced as they were near the
metal backing when my friend asked if these were the pads
from that car and the w/shop f/man said that they had then
why are these one's lying there oh replied the f/man they
are from a previous car that had been on the ramp but my friend noticed that the
sliders that the calipers move on
when you brake ,the rubber seals that protect the sliders
were perforated and were probably seized and that was the
problem he thought was the cause of brakes sticking on so
we posed this question to the f/man and he said they would
have been checked before the car was handed over to me. we
were not happy that the car had been checked thoroughly so we contacted the mot
inspectorate as the garage had put a
years mot on the car so they came to the garage unexpected
and had a look at the car and basically the car should not
have passed an MOT also they found a few other things that
were not mot standard so the garage lost their mot license
and i got my money back as i was disgusted with there tricks
i looked through the local papers and found a Toyota starlet
on an ;r' plate has 48000 miles on the clock and has most of
its history she runs perfect and she only cost me 2100 pounds don't go to Arnold
Clark i would give anyone a second
chance but not him buy private make sure the car you have in
mind has a history [not from Arnold Clark i have to add] well
hope that has opened your eyes it certainly did mine 4.9.2003

i purchased a car at the auctions and it had been through
the Arnold Clark car machine j reg Volvo 460 i phoned up
the Arnold garage that was on the sales invoice which was
in the glove box of the car with the service book i asked
them if when they sold the car two years ago would they
have changed the timing belt they checked their records
and could not find the car on there computer when they sold
the car it had 55000 miles on the clock in that case he said we would definitely
have changed it on a standard service car now showing 69000 miles i said thats
one thing
that i wont have to replace how wrong i was coming home
from work one night the car gave a loud bang and ground to
halt took it to my friend he striped it down and my worst
fears were true timing belt had broken and wrecked the top
half of the engine and there's more it had the Volvo name
on the belt [back] what was left of it so they had not changed the belt at all,
some service eh' don't believe a
word Arnold Clarks branches say its lies regards James 4.9.2003
