Arnold Clark Sucks

I bought an Arnold Clark used car (1998 Corsa) and had various problems with it
in the first month (when still under warranty). It then broke down after 9 weeks
and good old Arnold Clark are refusing to take responsibility.

I've spoken with Trading Standards who say they are liable, I've checked the
law, which says they are liable, I've written to their Head Office and am still
getting nowhere. I've spoken now with the Scottish Motor Trade Association who
recommended conciliation, but if that doesn't work (and let's face it, chances
are slim) then I'll see Arnold in small claims court.

Even when I get them to pay for repairs, the hassle and the inconvenience of not
having a car for 2 months (and counting) will not be remedied. I would seriously
urge anyone thinking of dealing with Arnold Clark to look at all their options
as once they have your money, they don't care about what happens to you. 30.10.2003

I had an accident with my Mercedes CLK in early September this year. There
wasn't much structural damage to the car - mostly cosmetic. Because I was
prevented from driving for medical reasons, I wasn't in a great rush to get the
car back - but it took 7 weeks to get repaired. When I got it back, the
driver-side wing mirror wouldn't retract, the windscreen wipers had not been
installed properly - and  they had not connected the hand brake.
My wife was driving the car for two days before we realised it was disconnected.
Needless o say I am now getting a Mercedes dealer to do a full mechanical check
on the car. 3.11.2003

Hello,
To be honest I was shocked to find this site, was looking up some stuff about
car warranties and Arnold Clark sites when I found this and then I couldn't stop
reading...
Two and a half week ago, my boyfriend and I bought a car at Arnold Clark and it
has been a complete nightmare since. the thing is, we were going abroad so we
really needed a good car, so we chose to buy a certain type that would suit the
purpose. This car had to come from another branch somewhere in Scotland and the
sales guy told us the car would be shipped over and ready for us in time. NOT
after coming back a two and a half hours drive from where we lived (that is 5
hours back and fro) we found the guy who helped us wasn't in that day and nobody
else knew what we were talking about! finally another guy phoned about the car
and it was still waiting to be shipped over! not serviced or anything! By that
time we didn't have time to go look for another car so we decided to miss our
ferry over to the continent and go a day later. ( cost us an additional 50quid) Ok to make a long story short, we finally got the car and managed to get over to the continent. BUT... u never believe what happened. we've got the car for two and a half weeks, it was from
1999. v reg. and only 6000 miles, and now a cv joint collapsed. What the
**** Phoned Arnold Clark about the warranty, if we could phone back
tomorrow, the manager has his day of and nobody else can tell us if we need to
pay for the parts ourselves or not...if we can come over to Scotland. NO OF
COURSE NOT We only wanted to know if we can get the parts, over here and then
send the invoice over to them so they can pay. is that so difficult??
( and the thing is, when I phoned, the sales guy actually remembered us cos of
all the hassle to get the car in the first place hence I'm not naming the type
or where we got the car..)3.11.2003

I have a story for you
I went to test drive a Fiat Stilo at the Arnold Clark garage in Alison Street
Glasgow
We had previously arrange the test drive some days in advance and arrived
promptly
Only to be told ….wait for it I cannot test drive the car unless I am going to
purchase the vehicle
So here the thing, how do I know if I am going to like the car and want to buy
it if they wont allow me to test drive it.
I complained to the manager who said that when I wanted to buy the car they
would let me have a test drive in it.
No apologies just that’s the way it is and that’s that
The arrogance of the salesman was absolutely ridiculous as was the attitude of
the manager
Talk about customer focused 3.11.2003

I had a bad deal at Arnold Clark, falkirk. The car was fine till the first mot. They would not give it a full years MOT when I got it, I think it was because they had doubts with it and it might cost them.
Anyway the repairs were not covered by my £300 extended warranty. I said the faults were ready to go when I bough it, like shock absorbers and scored disks. They said yes they were fine when I bough the car but never let on the were 80% worn.
I argued with the manager at his desk for 2 hours. He said do you know how much i earn per hour to argue with me, I said i earn £7 an hour and if I make at least a £14 refund, I have broke even. At the end they went halfers on the repairs, to stop me sending away more customers by my complaining.
Again next time I had a fault they argued my warranty won't cover it .The sales folk love you, but when the car is bought the after sales/repairs treat you like a prisoner, they have got you no 3.11.2003

just a quick note. please remember when buying a used
car check the catalyser as five to six years is the maximum
life span and uncle Arnold would rather patch it up than
put on a new one' you should not buy a car from Arnolds as
they are all crooks anyway take a mechanic with you and buy your
next car privately you will save hundreds of pounds 4.11.2003

please do not buy a car from the kirkcaldy branch or any
branch of Arnold Clark. the Volvo dealership in the town are
a bunch of crooks they sold me a Renault Clio 1600rt x reg
25000 miles it had done 3door all seemed well at first till
i got it home .as i am mechanically minded i had a good poke
around at things just to find out where everything was
tried to get into the boot which should work with the push
button on the master key [opens all doors plus boot] tried
manually to open the boot but would not open phoned up the
garage to speak to the salesman Darren [or Damien] told him
the problem got put through to the workshop bring it in to
the garage in the morning they had a look at it the mechanic told me to come
back in the afternoon so i came
back and was told the magnetic locking device was not work
ing and would have to be replaced as i had taken out a car
warranty that should be covered no it is not covered the cost would be £90 plus
vat plus fitting £169 pounds they
said so the car was sorted as i told them i was going away
with the car could they hurry up .they said it would not
take long to fit it they also had the part in their Stirling branch picked the
car up next evening boot working
ok. driving away from the garage herd a squealing noise from
under the bonnet the fan belt was turning but the alternator was trying not to
took it back to the garage i
think they heard me coming drove in to the garage they said
the bearing had gone in the alternator it was not covered
buy the warranty i said it must be because the car can't
go without it and the car was ok when i brought it in. well as i needed the car i
had no time to argue it cost me £189
pounds for a new one. I was talking to a friend of mine and
he knew a colleague of his who had the same problems as me and
he found out through the grape vine that if there are any
models the same in stock with mechanical problems they put the
faulty part on your car tell you the part has failed and put the good part back
on your vehicle and because your car
is so new the part looks new also how can you prove it is not and they charge
you for your own part i don't know if that is what they have done but the car
was charging ok
when it went it to get the boot sorted
Arnold Clark you can stick your cars in the forth river

they would make a good home for a shark which is what Arnold Clark is goodbye 4.11.2003
