I have never owned a reasonably new car, so you can imagine my delight when
my husband announced out of the blue that he had bought me a 2yr old Peugeot
206 from Arnold Clark. I was absolutely over the moon and could not wait for
the day to come when I could collect my shiny HDI and bring it home. Five
long days later I went to collect the car to be told that it had been making
a knocking noise and were looking into it. Three hours later I drove away in
my beautiful car to later discover that we had been sold the wrong car! It
was actually a 1.9 diesel and not a HDI. My husband returned the car the
next day and basically told them where to stick it! He then drove back in my
old Mondeo estate 22.11.2003

My girlfriend and i bought a pre registered Fiat Punto from Arnold's Aberdeen showroom.
On the second day of owning it the indicators stopped working, back we went got it repaired and told by the mechanic that we weren't the only one with this fault.
Once the car was home i decided to check over every part visible and discovered that they had damaged the plastic dash fixing screws, the protective under seal on the chassis had been damaged through to the bare steel, and the wax coating on the bodywork and windows had not been properly removed (i am an ex car valet and know what it is). and to add to this the radio stopped working.
Went back and the service manager who is a complete arse talked to my girlfriend in a very patronizing manner and didn't seem to give a toss, but they took the radio out and said it had to be sent away for repairs, my girlfriend, Susan had to near plead with them to get a replacement while the original was being repaired, they eventually did after a bit of a scene, after Susan left the garage she went to switch on the radio and discovered they hadn't entered the security code.
When she phone the arse (service manger) said the code is in beside your hand book do it yourself.
Not much use considering it was a donor unit.
A week or so passes and Susan asked me what a particular light that was flashing every now and then was. It was a light for the power steering.
Back again and the arse said you are never happy but had it looked at and said nothing is wrong.
Then a strange knocking noise from the brakes appeared so in again and check this flashing light, apparently one of the brakes needed adjusting and nothing wrong with the steering, patronized again by the arse Susan had a go at him for talking to her in this manner and wanted to leave but he just laughed and wouldn't give her the keys for some reason,
After being back several times to see why this light is flashing they still did nothing.
It took 6 weeks for the radio to be returned.
We wrote a letter of complaint to Aberdeen and the head office in Glasgow and they agreed to have a close look at the problems.
They phoned Susan and said they had done the jobs listed in the complaint but couldn't find the damaged under seal.
I took over at this point and spoke to the arse to tell him where to look, he wasn't patronizing with me in fact he was pleasant and understanding, he told me there was a Fiat specialist looking at the steering problem as we spoke.
On further queries the arse apparently talks to every female who comes in, in the manner he does, but he has been with the company to long for any action to be taken on him.
We are now waiting for a call to bring the car back in as they say they are going to try replacing the ECU to see if the fault will be cured.
Bear in mind we have now only had this car for coming on 11 weeks and it has been back 9 times so far.
Arnold sucks, and some.
ps sorry its a long story but that's what it's like 25.11.2003

Bought a Nissan Primera in August 2002, rubber seal was to be fixed, took 3
months to get it fixed, after harassing them to hell and back. Found myself at
what seemed to be every Arnold Clark garage in Scotland being given the
runaround by them.

Best bit. Car was advertised in the showroom at £3995, paperwork was completed
on the Sunday. Pretty happy with the car, until I got home. While reading the
Sunday
Mail that evening, was looking in general interest at the motoring section, and
low and behold, here was the car which I just bought, advertised at £500!!!!!,
yes £500!!!!! cheaper.

Phoned the garage )McHargs in Castlebank Street) on the Monday morning,
pretending I was interested in the car advertised in the paper at £3495, and
could they tell me more about it. Stupid salesman gave me all the information,
and was delighted in telling me there was a £500 reduction on the price!!!! The
word gob smacked would not even describe his reaction on the phone when I
informed him I had purchased the car the day before at the price of £3995. The
guy did not know what to say to me, what a surprise!! Demanded a phone call from
the head salesperson, never got it. Marched up to the garage, did a bit of
shouting an balling, did no good, apart from the sales staff telling me to calm
down.

Anyway bought the car at the reduced price, have had nothing but problems with
it, never again.

My advice to you all, ALWAYS CHECK THE PAPERS ON CARS FOR SALE, NEVER TRUST THE
SALE STAFF, BUT THEN WHO WOULD, AND NEVER EVER GO NEAR ARNOLD CLARK AND THEIR
F!!!!!! STAFF AGAIN. A BUNCH OF ROBOTS IN SLEAZY, CHEAP SUITS HAVE I EVER SEEN.
WHAT F!!!!!! TRAINING SCHOOL DID THEY GO TO. I WOULD LOVE TO GO UNDERCOVER AND
SEE WHAT REALLY HAPPENS WITH THEIR SALES AND WHAT IS SAID BEHIND OUR BACKS!!  25.11.2003

I bought a car from them and after it went back for a service some months later it came back with a scraped bumper and one of the original tyres missing.
When I took it back they said mistakes can happen and put a new tyre on it without an argument. Does this mean that they knew about the tyre being removed and an older one put in its place. perhaps this is how they get decent tyres for there used car sales on the forecourt.
Oh two years later I am still waiting for the scratches to be repaired 26.11.2003

Takes Arnold at least two months to replace rear passenger light. Haven't
received it yet so it will take longer.
I have a company car through Lex Vehicle Leasing (they are very good) and needed
this part replaced.
Over to Arnold and driver arrives with part while I am on holiday. Obviously too
complicated to 'phone to find out if I am available. Arnold loses a point for
stupidity.
The parts are then returned to wherever they came from. Maybe my car recuperated
whilst I am on holiday and no longer needs fixed. Arnold loses his second point
for stupidity.
Still waiting and third point lost for inefficiency.
Avoid Arnold at all costs, totally useless. 27.11.2003

As an ex-employee i would like to suggest the following to all service customers
of old Arnie (yes he's old & i have met him).
when the service advisor is reading you the tech's report & advising you of the
cost of the labour, demand to see the back of the job card for yourself & ask to
see the tech in person. Reason...?
when they are charging you 3.0 hrs @ £50ph + vat for servicing or repairing your
car you'll usually find that the job was done in just half the time!!!!
Ask them to explain how the job which is usually timed by the Manu's can be done
competently in less time?

i.e. Honda Kirkcaldy
book time 2.7hrs
time on job .85hrs
Mmmmmmm......
quality? 289.11.2003
